Failure to Provide Community Intelligence Enables Terrorists to Thrive, Says CDS Musa
Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has attributed Nigeria's insecurity challenges to the silence of citizens, stating that their failure to provide community intelligence has enabled terrorists to thrive. Speaking at the 2025 Voice of Nigeria Forum, Musa emphasized the need for national unity and citizens' collaboration to overcome security challenges. Musa lamented that Nigerians' silence is responsible for some attacks witnessed in most parts of the country, asking rhetorically, "Who is feeding them? Who supplies their ammunition?" He stressed that the failure of Nigerians to provide community intelligence has hindered the military's efforts to combat terrorism and banditry.
Despite challenges, the Nigerian Armed Forces have recorded significant successes, including killing 1,770 terrorists and arresting 3,070 others in the past three years. Musa called for unity among Nigerians, stating that the country's potential can only be realized when citizens work together. The Nigerian military continues to face challenges in combating terrorism, including the use of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and support from informants. Musa has emphasized the need for creativity and innovation in addressing these challenges. As the nation grapples with security concerns, citizens are urged to support the military by providing vital information to aid in the fight against terrorism. The collaboration between citizens and the military is seen as crucial in ensuring the safety and security of the nation.
