House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu vows to mobilize against Governor Alex Otti, accusing him of poor governance and unfulfilled promises to Abia people.
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is determined to reclaim Abia State from the ruling Labour Party in the 2027 general elections, insisting that Governor Alex Otti has not lived up to the expectations of the people. Kalu made the declaration during a political consultation in Bende Local Government Area, where he accused the governor of “failing to deliver on his campaign promises” and neglecting the core needs of Abians.
According to Kalu, despite the governor’s initial goodwill, the administration has allegedly failed to make meaningful impact in key sectors such as road infrastructure, healthcare, and civil service welfare. “Abia deserves better than what we are currently seeing,” Kalu stated. “Governor Otti’s leadership has not met the basic expectations of our people. The APC will organize, mobilize, and take back Abia come 2027 — that is not a threat, it’s a promise.”
The Deputy Speaker also claimed that many residents of the state who initially supported Otti out of hope for a new beginning are now disappointed by what he called “slow development and excessive propaganda.” He further hinted that internal consultations were already ongoing within the APC to present what he described as a “unifying and competent candidate” that would restore Abia’s “lost economic and political pride.”
Kalu emphasized that his resolve to challenge the current administration was not based on personal interest, but on his conviction that Abia deserves efficient governance and inclusive progress. “We will build a coalition that cuts across political lines,” he said. “By 2027, Abia will see a new dawn — one founded on transparency, competence, and accountability.”
