The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has publicly rejected claims that it awarded a Bachelor of Science degree to Uche Nnaji, the current Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation. In a statement released following a Freedom of Information request, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Simon U. Ortuanya, confirmed that while Nnaji was admitted in 1981, the university has no record of him completing his studies or being issued a degree certificate. (Wapcodehub9ja)
UNN’s official position contradicts statements made by Nnaji and others that he graduated in July 1985. The university cited missing graduation records and the absence of completion reports for core courses as reasons it cannot validate the certificate currently being presented as his academic credential. In corroboration of UNN’s stance, investigations revealed that Nnaji reportedly failed certain mandatory courses and was advised to withdraw. Marketed versions of his purported NYSC certificate were also scrutinized by news outlets, uncovering internal inconsistencies. ( Wapcodehub9ja Blog reported)
As this controversy deepens, critics argue that the minister’s continued use of the disputed academic credentials raises serious questions about accountability, integrity, and trust in public office. Calls are mounting for further transparency and full disclosure from Nnaji to address these discrepancies.
