The Government of China has expressed firm opposition to any form of external interference in Nigeria’s internal affairs, declaring its full support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mao Ning, made this known during a press briefing in Beijing on Tuesday while responding to questions regarding the recent statement by U.S. President Donald Trump, who threatened possible military action against Nigeria.
Mao stated that Nigeria remains a vital strategic partner to China in Africa and emphasized that mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity are fundamental principles of international relations. She urged global powers to resolve differences through dialogue and cooperation, not confrontation.
She further noted that China values its long-standing friendship with Nigeria, especially in areas of trade, infrastructure development, and diplomatic collaboration, adding that the Chinese government stands in solidarity with the Nigerian people in maintaining national stability and peace.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry reaffirmed its position that political disputes should be handled through peaceful and respectful means, stressing that Beijing supports Nigeria’s efforts to protect its national interests and maintain unity amid global tensions.
