The Federal Government will soon end the practice of foreign airlines selling flight tickets in United States dollars, according to the President of the National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies (NANTA), Mr. Yinka Folami.

Speaking to reporters in Lagos, Folami explained that the government, through the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, is working on a new regulatory policy that will ensure all airlines operating in Nigeria sell tickets in the local currency, the naira. He said this would help protect travelers and restore balance to the nation’s foreign exchange system.

According to Folami, the continuous sale of flight tickets in foreign currency has caused hardship for passengers and agents, especially as exchange rates fluctuate daily. He added that such practices undermine Nigeria’s monetary policy and contribute to inflationary pressure in the travel sector.

The NANTA president revealed that discussions between airline operators, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and the aviation ministry are ongoing. He expressed optimism that the issue will be resolved soon in a way that supports both the airlines and the Nigerian economy.

Folami further assured travelers that once implemented, the policy will make air travel more affordable and transparent. He urged citizens to remain patient as the government finalizes modalities to protect their interests and enhance the ease of doing business within the aviation industry.
