Political analyst Isaac Olatunde has accused the United States of showing discomfort over Nigeria’s recent alignment with the BRICS alliance, which includes China and Russia. He alleged that Washington’s discomfort stems from Nigeria’s growing independence in global diplomacy and its willingness to diversify its partnerships beyond traditional Western powers. According to him, the United States is not comfortable with Nigeria’s newfound alliances and is allegedly working behind the scenes to sow internal discord.
Olatunde argued that the U.S. government has adopted subtle tactics to destabilize the country, one of which is promoting divisive religious narratives disguised as humanitarian advocacy. He stated that the United States and some Western media outlets are exaggerating the issue of “Christian genocide” in Nigeria while deliberately ignoring the acts of terrorism and violence committed by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). He added that such manipulation is designed to spark division among Nigerians and weaken the country’s unity.
The analyst further suggested that the end goal of these narratives is to fracture Nigeria and possibly create a “Biafra Republic”, which could then serve as a military and intelligence base for the U.S. in West Africa. According to Olatunde, this plan would enable America to maintain influence in Africa after realizing that Nigeria has begun forging stronger relationships with China and Russia through BRICS. He warned that the Western strategy is to use propaganda to create division under the banner of human rights and religious freedom.
Olatunde emphasized that Nigeria’s growing relationship with China and Russia is a strategic step aimed at boosting trade, security cooperation, and technological development. He said the BRICS partnership provides Nigeria with an opportunity to explore fairer economic models and escape Western economic domination. He also noted that, through BRICS, African nations like Nigeria can gain more bargaining power on global economic and political platforms, ensuring that their voices are respected in matters affecting their development.
In his concluding remarks, Olatunde urged the Nigerian government to stay firm and resist external pressure. He stressed that unity is the only way Nigeria can safeguard its sovereignty and maintain stability amid global power struggles. He also called on citizens to remain vigilant, avoid being swayed by misleading international propaganda, and support the country’s efforts to assert independence on the global stage.
