The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has inaugurated its Constitution Review Committee, a move aimed at reinforcing internal democracy, transparency, and institutional governance. The ceremony, held today, January 8, 2026, was led by the National Chairman, Senator David A. B. Mark, GCON.


The 22-member committee is tasked with reviewing the party constitution, strengthening party structures, enhancing dispute resolution mechanisms, and ensuring full compliance with Nigeria’s electoral laws. The initiative underscores ADC’s commitment to aligning its operations with global best practices in political party governance.


Leading the committee is Barrister Etigwe Uwa, SAN, appointed as chairman. The panel also includes prominent legal practitioners, former governors, senators, and party leaders, among them: Barr. Peter Iyeola Oyewole, Hon. C.I.D. Maduabum, Hon. Ishaka Bawa, Sen. Ehigie Uzamere, Mrs. Sally Oguni-Agbo (PhD), Barr. Aishatu Dan-Kani, Prof. Lawal Salihu, H.E. Emeka Ihedioha, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe, Hon. Mohammed Kumaila, Barr. Suleiman Usman, SAN, Bar Zawo Osu, DIG Ibrahim Adamu (Rtd), Dr. Rasaq Oyelami Saliu, Sen. E.Y. Orker-Jev, Sen. Idris Abdullahi Umar, Chief Ralph Nwosu, Barr. Amanda Pam, Prof. Mohammed Sani Bello, Dr. Paul Angya, and Rukayya Lamido Dodo.


Senator Mark emphasized that the exercise demonstrates ADC’s dedication to inclusiveness, accountability, and professional party management. He noted that robust internal governance is essential for a competitive political party and for nurturing credible leadership in Nigeria’s democratic landscape.


Political analysts say the committee’s work could strengthen ADC’s internal cohesion, provide clearer guidelines for party operations, and enhance its capacity to resolve internal disputes effectively. It also positions the party as a model for democratic practices among Nigerian political organizations.


The Constitution Review Committee is expected to submit its recommendations in due course, ensuring that the ADC’s governance framework remains modern, transparent, and compliant with national electoral regulations.
