The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A, Ikeja, has intercepted four live pangolins during a targeted patrol operation at Alapa Creek in the Ajilete community of Ogun State.

According to information made available to Wapcodehub9ja LIVE News, the interception occurred while operatives were conducting routine surveillance along identified routes frequently used for illegal movements across border communities.

Customs officials said the live pangolins were discovered during the operation and were immediately secured by the patrol team to prevent further harm or illegal transfer.

The interception forms part of ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Customs Service to curb wildlife trafficking and other illegal cross-border activities within the South-West operational corridor.

Officers attached to the Federal Operations Unit noted that Alapa Creek has remained an area of interest due to its terrain and proximity to informal movement routes.

The Service reiterated that the illegal trade in protected wildlife species poses serious environmental and legal concerns and remains a priority focus of enforcement activities.

Customs authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for the attempted movement of the animals.

The rescued pangolins are expected to be handed over to appropriate wildlife and environmental authorities for care and further action in line with existing regulations.

The Nigeria Customs Service reaffirmed its commitment to sustained patrols and intelligence-driven operations aimed at protecting national resources and enforcing the law.
