NIGERIAN ARMY LAMENTS LOW ENLISTMENT OF SOUTH EAST YOUTHS

South East Youths Urged to Take Advantage of Recruitment Opportunities

The Nigerian Army has raised a concern over the low number of applications from South East youths in the ongoing recruitment exercise. Despite efforts to promote the military profession, the region has recorded the lowest number of applications compared to other parts of the country.

According to reports, Kaduna State has over 3,000 applications for the 2025 recruitment exercise, while Enugu State has only about 100. This trend has prompted the Army to call for a change in attitude and encourage youths to take advantage of the recruitment opportunities.

The Army attributes the low enlistment to misconceptions about the military profession and urges youths to disregard such notions. The Enugu State Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development emphasizes the need for the military to adapt its recruitment strategies to appeal to the new generation.

The Army's efforts to increase awareness and enlightenment through town hall meetings and collaborations with local government chairmen, traditional rulers, and thought leaders are steps in the right direction. It remains to be seen whether these efforts will yield the desired results and increase the number of South East youths joining the military service.
