ADAMAWA STATE GOVERNMENT REVOKES ATIKU ABUBAKAR'S WAZIRI ADAMAWA TITLE

Breaking News: Atiku Abubakar Loses Traditional Title in Adamawa State

The Adamawa State Government has officially stripped former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of his traditional title as Waziri Adamawa, citing non-indigeneship as the reason. According to a circular dated June 20, 2025, and signed by Mrs. Adama Felicity Mamman, Permanent Secretary of the Department of Chieftaincy Affairs, all Kingmakers and Council members in the state must now be indigenes of their respective chiefdoms.

The Waziri Adamawa title, conferred on Atiku in 2017, is the second-highest traditional position in the Adamawa Emirate. Atiku hails from Jada Local Government Area under the Ganye Chiefdom, which makes him ineligible to hold a title within the Adamawa Emirate Council. The decision affects not only Atiku but also others holding similar positions.

The move is widely perceived as a deliberate strategy to undermine Atiku's political influence in his home state. Many observers view the timing and execution as a direct affront to Atiku by Governor Umaru Fintiri, his former political ally. The revocation has sparked outrage and speculation, with some analysts believing it's politically motivated and aimed at weakening Atiku's influence ahead of the 2027 elections.

The development has generated a lot of controversy, with many Nigerians taking to social media to react to the news. While some have commended the Adamawa State Government for taking a stand on the issue of indigeneship, others have condemned the move, describing it as a witch-hunt against Atiku.

The implications of this decision are far-reaching, and it remains to be seen how Atiku will respond to this development. One thing is certain, however: the revocation of Atiku's title has sent shockwaves throughout the country, and it will be interesting to see how this story unfolds.
